Finding Passages with Ease

When the authors of the Bible wrote the books, they didn't include chapters or verses. They were added later by uninspired men in order to help us find specific passages very quickly.

• Chapter divisions were added in A.D. 1227 by Stephen Langton.
• Verse divisions were added in A.D. 1555 by Robert Estienne.

On the chart below, move your mouse cursor over the red, blue and green areas.

• The red area is the book.
• The blue area is the chapter.
• The green area is the verse or verse range.

Notice that a colon ( : ) separates the chapter number from the verse(s). Listen to me pronounce this citation:
